‘Ridiculous buffoon’: DeSantis shredded after offering Lindsay Clancy juror ‘asylum’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sparked ridicule Friday after offering “asylum” to the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.

DeSantis lashed out after NBC10 Boston reported that the juror had faced domestic violence allegations and had an active restraining order against him while hearing the case.

“NBC is trying to smear that juror,” DeSantis wrote Friday in a post on X. “Another low for legacy media.”

He added: “If the juror is being harassed, Florida will provide asylum — I’m sure he’d be welcomed and appreciated.”

Richard Hanania, a newsletter writer and controversial right-wing figure, mocked the Republican governor’s offer.

“DeSantis now offering the right’s favorite black juror ‘asylum’ from harassment,” Hanania wrote on X. “What a ridiculous buffoon.”

Florida political writer A.G. Gancarski openly questioned how such an offer would even work.

“How does Florida ‘provide asylum’ for someone from Massachusetts?” he asked his social media followers. “Juror’s getting a bad deal but that’s not our taxpayers’ problem.”

Law & Crime managing editor Cathy Russon, meanwhile, highlighted NBC10 Boston’s reporting that Massachusetts’ standard questionnaire asks prospective jurors about arrests, criminal charges and court orders.

“I don’t see how they would’ve allowed him to be a member of this jury,” NBC10 Boston’s chief legal analyst Michael Coyne said, according to the outlet.

The trial ended in a mistrial after the juror reportedly stood alone against finding Clancy not criminally responsible because of postpartum psychosis.
